The most important reason to fear addiction is in order to maintain control of your life. You should be able to make choices for you and your loved ones without the influence of activities that make you feel guilty. Sometimes the addictions are to things enough people feel are ‘good’ addictions so some people might feel as if they aren’t addicted or that their addiction is somehow exalted; something to be idolized. I have yet to be convinced any addiction is a good one. Some people think the gym addiction is good. They associate the gym with being healthy. This goes along with the misconception that fitness is health. This isn’t true all of the time or even most of the time. Fitness is a superficial quality where health is not. Both have their place but to make a bigger point addiction isn’t healthy. Being fit is not healthy either. Health and fitness are two different concepts often not observed by people who sell gym memberships or people who just think being thin is healthy.
